Nightmare Fuel is a haunting exploration of trauma, guilt, and the terrifying monsters we unknowingly let control us. Nightmare Fuel follows a 17-year-old girl named Mihle, who follows her nightly routine religiously until darkness becomes her greatest fear. Every other night, she is tormented by a monster that lurks in the shadows. At first, she dismisses it as her imagination, but as the nights go by, the presence of the monster grows stronger. Mihle believes the Monster is an external force tormenting her, but the truth is far more sinister. Guided by fragmented visions of her late mother, Thandeka, Mihle begins to question reality. As she desperately seeks an escape, she begins noticing similarities between the Monster and her mother. When she finally pieces everything together, Mihle comes face to face with the horrifying truth, the Monster has always been her mother. Trapped in an abusive home with her alcoholic mother, with nowhere left to hide, with reality sinking in, Mihle realizes that the only way to escape the Monster is to escape her mother. Summoning the courage she never knew she had, she chooses to leave, breaking free from the cycle of fear and abuse that has held her captive for so long. As she steps into the unknown, Mihle takes her first breath of freedom, leaving the darkness behind.
