SPECIAL Story Synopsis: Freshly matriculated Katherine, a young, autistic woman struggles to adjust to her new environment as a university student. Like any other 19-year-old, Katherine wants to make friends. The combination of her autistic traits and sensory issues makes it anything but easy, and as she ventures on her quest for connection, the characters she meets along the way will change her life as she knows it. “Special” is a coming-of-age Drama that follows Katherine’s journey to make new friends and find genuine connections. The film explores what it feels like to be autistic, and how it affects relationships and human interaction. It is a story of facing adversity, acceptance, respect, and connection.
