Caution, Alien Abductions on AFDA Premises! 2023 marks the final year for AFDA’s first group of BCW students. As the new arrivals, we can’t help but feel alienated from the rest of the school. With all other disciplines having such deep roots, the very first alumni of each school are embedded deeply into AFDA’s History. They’ve become fables for the rest of the students. That’s not so for BCW. BCW is entirely new, and still finding its footing. We, the first group of BCW students, are the culmination of AFDA’s efforts to introduce specifically disciplined writers into the industry. While other schools at AFDA get their hands dirty in decades-practised work, students have tilted their heads at BCW. Our school follows no tradition, there is none to follow. And there are no prior alumni in whose footsteps we will follow. We tread untouched ground. We are aliens. We’ve become hypersensitive to the struggles of those who are like us. As such, each of our nine graduation projects features alienation in some capacity. We’ve decided to take this concept to its literal interpretation. And on June 16th, we’ll be dropping by as alien overlords and their captives. Abductions will be abundant, probings will be performed, dedicated readings, discussions, and insights will be aplenty! The BCW students have been captured and placed in a zoo! After all, to the aliens, we’re just as alien. To pass the time, we’ve each written a story that’s close to our hearts, and we’d love to share them with you - whether you’re abducted and thrown into the zoo, or just a curious onlooker who’s wandered in.
