Across the border is a documentary that depicts the plight of immigrant Zimbabwean women, who had to immigrate to South Africa after the collapse of the Zimbabwean economy, in hopes of better economic and health opportunities. It showcases the difficulties and emotional turmoil of immigrating to a foreign country, without the support of family and friends and having to work low-income jobs due to lack of job opportunities and prejudice towards “foreigners”. The narrative is portrayed through the story of an immigrant domestic worker, who immigrated to South Africa after a cholera outbreak in Zimbabwe. She had to work as a domestic worker in order to take care of her family. It explores the notion of whether or not South Africa is a rainbow nation.
