AFDA alumni won 6 of the 18 awards up for grabs at the first-ever African edition of the Ciclope Festival – a leading international awards show which recognises exceptional craft in moving image. The African festival, which received over 150 submissions across 16 categories, was hosted at Cape Town’s new critically acclaimed Museum of Contemporary Art, Zeitz MOCAA.

The award categories included ‘Branded Content’, which included sub-categories like Animation, Casting, Cinematography, etc.; five ‘Special Categories’, which included Low Budget, Long Form, Music Video, etc. sub-categories; and one Grand Prix winner namely, Beats by Dre – “Above The Noise” which was directed by AFDA Cape Town alumni Terence Neale, produced by Park Pictures and created by agency JohnXHannes New York.

In the Branded Content category AFDA alumni:

• Jamie Ramsey won the Best Cinematography award
• Terence Neale won Best Direction (90 seconds and over)
• Tristan Holmes won Best Direction (under 90 seconds)
• Stephan du Plessis won Best Editing

In the Specialist Category:

• Amy Allias won Best Music Video
